I had a shoot last week with a helicopter. Once the blades spin up the focus bug distance goes to like 5 feet' instead of 40'. Anyone have any tips for this scenario? It seems like the blade wash is creating an artificial wall and bouncing the ultrasonic back.

Hi All. Please forgive my very late reply on this. There are many considerations with regard to environmental sound levels when using the Cine RT and ultrasonic. I don't think that there is a hard and fast rule regarding performance when around fans and gunfire, in fact, I've received a lot of feedback telling us how the system performed well under conditions involving loud ambient noise (fans and gunfire included). I'm assuming that performance will vary from case to case. We tried using the Cine RT in a wind tunnel and it did not work, whereas doing car-to-car work at high highway speeds with wind has worked fine. I was told recently that on the latest Mission Impossible, the system worked well in close proximity to an actual jet engine being used for a practical effect.

One suggestion I have for conditions with playback or loud effects where sound is wild will be to use the forthcoming MOS Mode option. This will be coming in a new V.23 firmware, coming soon. Please cut and paste the following link to the user video.
