Alexa 35 thoughts

Following a demo at CVP and some hands on time, I thought I'd share some thoughts on the new Alexa35. Not a comprehensive list as there's so much to look at and think about. The build is lovely. Very solid with lots of IO to make powering endless accessories easy.

The top fan position is a bit of a pain as I know a lot of people put a TX or cinetape there, not too bad to work around though. 17 stops of DR is nuts. Highlight range is huge and the roll off is really smooth so even clipped areas look great.

The extended sensitivity is very interesting. 3200ES feels about the same as 1280 on the mini

Textures are a little odd. I feel a bunch of people are going to slap Nostalgia on because it's cool and then moan it's too noisy in post. A lot more testing is needed but from what I've seen, use deep shadow if you're fighting for light and clarity if you're doing a master wide. Sensor flip on a user button is of course the biggest news for ACs. Bigger than the DR.

Raw is about as efficient as 4444XQ and gives you way more flexibility. I think we're all going to be shooting more raw on the Alexa35. I'd love to hear others first opinions on the camera. I'd especially love to hear from those that have shot with it already.
