Venice 2 + Arri setup

Hello Community Fam!

Next week I’m going to be shooting with Venice 2 and I’d like some opinions about this camera setup that I think, ideally, would work.

Cforce RF motor (focus): Connected to front Lens port via CAM / Hirose (12pin) for Metadata - Lbus/Lbus to Cforce Mini Motor (Iris) - Lbus/Lbus to RIA-1 and finally from RIA-1 CAM to Dtap/Hirose (8pin) to Remote back port for Tally & Run/Stop.

For IRIS and Long range control: RIA-1 will be in Host mode with RF 2400 (orange module) connected to an SX hand unit also with RF 2400 (orange module)

For FOCUS control: Cforce RF motor also in Host mode (different channel from RIA-1) connected to Hi5 hand unit with RF-EMIP.  Both hand units with Sony Camera Control License.

CineRT connected to RIA-1 via Serial connector

Thanks!!

No distance readout on Hi-5

Hi!

I've got my rangefinder (Moon Smart Focus) plugged in to the serial port of the Alexa 35 and using an rf motor for focus (Cam-lbus cable from motor to camera).

The issue i'm having is that i'm not getting the readout from the Moon system on my hand unit.

It shows up on the monitor, if I enable the camera to show lens data and distance readout, so I know it's getting in to the system.

If I switch my rf motor to a regular mini motor and use the cameras radio reciever everything works as it should with the readout on the Hi-5. I want to avoid that solution though, because of the issue with sending lens files from the Hi-5 to the camera.

Anyone who had the same issue?

Hi-5 - Arri Alexa 35 Communication issues

I’m having trouble with the communication between the Hi-5 and the camera.

I’m using the following equipment:

Alexa 35

Cooke Panchro Classic/i with LDS

Arri Hi-5 with RF-900 module

1 c-force mini motor for focus

Right. For camera control, like you mentioned, you need the CAM>LBUS cable from RIA to one of the A35’s LBUS ports. It’s my understanding that you need to come out of the RIA CAM port specifically, directly into the camera’s LBUS in order to gain camera control.

The focus scale is unfortunately not useable from the Cooke /i LDS because the /i data protocol doesn’t include the focus scale, only the current focus position. So it’s unfortunately not possible to use the lens’s /i data if you want to use the pre-marked rings on your Hi5. (This is why I always make lens files for Cooke lenses and put a motor on for iris to inject the metadata back into the system.)

So you can either use the LDS from the lens for metadata, and skip using pre-marked rings (this way the DIT has iris data). Or you can disable the lens mount & use your own lens files to inject metadata (and for iris metadata, you’ll need to add a motor to the ARRI system).

Unfortunately you can’t do half one and half the other.

Iris Jumping Issue - Arri Hi-5/Ronin/Varicam LT

Hey All,

Having an issue when I go to Ronin mode, the iris will jump back and forth and my current solution is to shut off the iris handset (hi-5) at the DIT station and take control on my handset (Hi-5). Anyone else experience something like this?

Current setup

Power from Ronin to Ignite Digi powered top plate (https://www.ignitedigi.com.au/products/power-breakout?_pos=17&_sid=10843f369&_ss=r) (Ronin 4-pin to 2-pin lemo)

2-pin out to LCUBE-1

LCUBE-1 to CineRT Base via Bi-directional Y-cable
