Teradek CTRL.5

Hi.

There is any news if there will be a camera control for ARRI cameras for the CTRL.5, with the same options of the Hi5? Maybe a paid license?

thanks.

Are the plans for it to be implemented via WiFi? Or are the plans to make it a more stable way like arri does with Sony with the RIA?

MDR.S General Complaint

I thought I would just post this in hopes that a) it could help fellow ACs troubleshooting, and b) it might spark some changes on future products or firmware.

With both the older Latitude MDR and the new MDR.S the biggest downside of the system is that it will auto-calibrate at start-up. I can understand why the engineers thought this would be a good idea since the motor has "no idea" what happened in between power cycles and therefore a calibration is needed. I will argue a few points against this:

  1. The gold standard of wireless focus for decades was Preston, which did not enable a feature like this. It's the ACs job to know when something has changed and calibrate accordingly. Honestly, even the act of plugging in a motor cable to a Preston triggering an autocalibration was a bit annoying, but avoidable in most cases.

  2. This creates a…

Thank you for your thorough description of these scenarios. I will pass it along to the RT team to review 🤘🏻

To be fair, the preston system once receiving power will auto calibtate the motors similar to what is happening here with the MDR.S system you describe. In addition on the preston system, you can unplug a motor and replug in and the motor will auto calibrate. So the RT system functions similar to the preston system in a few ways.

Issue with latitude MDR, using with CTRL.1 and Motr.X

I’m currently on set and everything is working fine now. But for about 30 min this morning the system wouldn’t connect, and it just calibrated over and over without me telling it to. Not sure what I did fixed it or if it just started working. All I did was change channels change signal strength to medium and do a bunch of power cycles and resets.

very disconcerting since it worked fine at prep! what should I do if it happens again?

Seems to have been a power issue. I was running it off the 2-pin on the Mini, which I realize now is regulated and has a max amperage, so I think that must have been it. Makes sense that if it thinks it’s close to power cycling it would auto cal, which is an annoying thing about the system in general.

hopefully this helps anyone seeing the same symptoms! Hard to troubleshoot the latitude. Might have to upgrade to the MDR.S
