CamTools, 3D Printed Tools for the Camera Department

Hey everyone! I wanted to share something I've been working on alongside my career as an Assistant Camera.

I'm a professional AC and, like many of you, I've always been obsessed with organization and problem-solving on set. A few years ago I started combining that obsession with 3D printing, and it slowly turned into something bigger than I expected.

I've just launched my Cults3D profile β€” 3D-CamTools β€” where I publish pro-grade 3D printed accessories designed specifically for the Camera Department.

πŸ”— https://cults3d.com/en/users/3D-CamTools/3d-models

Every model is field-tested on real productions with ARRI, RED, Tilta, Teradek and more. Some are free, others are available at a very accessible price.

If you're tired of zip-tying things together or spending a fortune on accessories for niche problems β€” this might save you some headaches on your next shoot.

They're nice and all but almost all of these have free counterparts available already, some being almost exactly the same, some being even better πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Available here, and on model sharing sites like Printables, Makerworld, Thingiverse etc. Only a couple of those I haven't seen before. You can search all of those at the same time on Yeggi.com

Focus Marks And SDI Cable Color Rings

Hello, here are two little accessories I made at the request of some friends.

  • Focus Marks for Arri / Preston rings (Works on the Hi5 with WCU-4 rings, who has a lip, as shown on the picture below)

  • BNC Color Rings to help identifying SDI cables for complex video configuration. They actually fit well and don't prevent to turn the cable to remove it (I was perplex with my first print but tested it afterwards)

EDIT : I added a focus mark holder to tape on your monitor or to keep in your front box

Frivolous reporting and deletion of similar models on Printables, publishing here instead for now

Mr. Masaki Hirahara, AKA "Mott" reported a couple of my designs on Printables, and they got deleted without the admins even asking about it. Apparently they don't adhere to the law about these things, they just delete if someone asks them to delete and give undue protections to the "original designer". I decided to share them here at least for now. Also attached are the notifications and side by side

images confirming they are different models.

I only looked at pictures, and decided to make something similar. I did not have access to his 3D models or printed objects. So they're not his designs, since that would require patents. With regards to the V-mount sticker base, I had already had a vague idea about it before even seeing Mott's model on his store, since it's a really simple idea. He doesn't share or sell his models, he only sells finished…

Printables admins responded with: "Hi,

We understand your statement regarding the design process and the fact that you modeled these files yourself. However, the designs were copied very closely from the original work, and we have accepted the report as a violation of the original author’s design rights.

Even if a model is recreated from scratch, closely mimicking the aesthetic and functional design of another creator's unique work without authorization still falls under our infringement policy.

If you wish to discuss this further or seek permission to share similar designs, we recommend contacting the original designer directly. You can reach them via their Instagram profile: https://www.instagram.com/mott_jp/

I hope you can understand. In case of changes or find the better solution we are in contact.

Best regards, The Printables Team" And

"Hi, thank you for your message. I will definitely follow this case, and I am committed to finding a fair solution for both sides as we move forward. We appreciate your models and all the effort you put into creating them. We are never happy about having to remove content from Printables, but we must respect the original designs of other creators. Thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, M"

Neither of which make any sense, but it is what it is. I also sent a message to Mott on Instagram 5 days ago and an email 3 days ago with no response.

Parametric Easy to Print Filter and Lens case tags

I’ve been working on some parametric filter tags and lens case labels,

All settings are adjustable In Makerworld so you don’t have to design your own. You don't need to use a bambu printer or slicer for this to work. You can add color with the paint by layer height function in any slicer as well when you slice it. Free to all! Maybe just boost my design in makerworld if you like it!

There is a Fusion 360 Parametric File in links as well

No more need to create or modify a design for new tags and easy to run batches
