Normally I pull off a 1303, but with some run 'n gun set ups, I break out my 702 bright so I can move alongside the camera. With the gold mount battery, plus the hand unit, plus the receiver, it gets pretty darn heavy. I was thinking about either getting a sidekick LT or for twice the $ the new 4k RX monitor module. Or is the weight difference not worth the investment? Would love everyone's thoughts.
Hey Mark, I use a Smallhd Cine 7 Rx (with build in Teradek) on my Cpro all mounted with nato rails with locking pins so no twisting issues. I use a 50wh Vlok on the monitor to power it and it’s way way lighter than having a Teradek mounted onto a 7” monitor with a Vlok. IMO it’s definitely worth it, bare in mind my favourite 7” monitor is the TV logic F7H, I would still rather use the Cine 7 RX because of the built in Teradek. If you want it even lighter and to not have to buy more batteries then I’ve used an umbilical cord to my belt pack before and that’s been brilliant, I prefer not doing umbilical though as have to untether and re-tether going on and off stands.
Hey Mark. Personally I have a SmallHD 703 bolt connected to my hand unit for run ‘gun shoots. Since the 703 bolt has a teradek sidekick built in I skip a having an extra receiver connected. I have the L series battery plate on it, that makes it even less heavy when I have batteries on it, backside here is that you only have about 45min ish on the monitor. If I need more juice I have a battery on my belt and a 2 pin lemo to dtap cable. The 703 bolt is one of my favorite monitors, the brightness and sharpness on it is insane ;)
Hey Mark! Basically what Martin and Zach said, in my last project I worked both with the 703 highbright bolt and the F-7H and I think that they are both great. The build in teradek is a solid pro for the 703, but price wise (and image wise, but this is only my personal taste) the F-7H is stunning. When I use it, if I wanna go handheld I usually use only the monitor on the bracket of my hand unit (so the combo is really light) and a really small v-mount on a clip belt (check out the one from FX-Lion, it’s super small and I really love it) and the sidekick on the side of that ( in a pouch or something similar). It is true that the “umbilical” cable can get in your way every now and then, but your wrist is gonna be thankful. If you don’t wanna the wire, what I usually do is to mount the sidekick with a very small magic arm on one of the side 1/4 holes of the F-7H and power both the monitor and the sidekick with a small 50Wh vmount mounted with a vmount plate on the back of the monitor. So the combo gets a little heavier but you don’t have any cable slowing you down. In the pick I’m not hand held but I think you get the idea. Hoped it helped!
Thanks guys. Sounding like built-in is the way to go.
503 on top hu3 then 6' power and bnc cable run into a mini backpack where I keep power distro and a batt. Versatile for every receiver and leaves room for a Lightranger VOU if I ever need that run and gun as well.
Thinking this is how I'm going to rig up my LR setup. Kind of want access to the buttons on the VOU though as I adjust the offset fairly often (paralax)... hmmmm
