If you don't want to use an inverter then i would get a battery terminal cable which you would connect to the car battery terminals (or some separate leisure batteries ideally) and then on the other end solder on a 4 pin XLR, Pin 4 is Power and Pin 1 is Ground. You could then run that into the car through the window unless battery is in the boot like some cars but it's a bit sloppy, much nicer to get a separate leisure or regular car batteries (SEALED LEAD ACID if your going to buy them) Then just make up a 4 pin XLR splitter cable and your good to go. 1 x 12v 30AH car battery will easily power most 17" monitors all day. If you need any help gimme a buzz and I'll run you through it or alternatively I have made up some 12v Peli Batteries (12v 38AH) your welcome to hire if in the UK.
Yes, just check what car your using it on as some newer cars have a kill switch built in line so when the car is switched off then so is the cigarette lighter. Give me a shout if you need a hand and double check your wiring with a multimeter.

thanks Zach, if I take the 4 pin xlr out of the car's cigarette lighter outlet and turn that 4pin into multiD-tap, do you think it can work?
