As DOF is getting shallower and harder to pull with the emergence of larger sensors, faster glass, and productions completely forgetting about the idea of what a rehearsal is - monitors are become an absolute necessity. I don't know about you guys but my forearms are getting pretty jacked with how heavy hand units with monitors are becoming and I dislike having to run back to my tree from the camera. In an attempt to get away from a monitor the idea of google glass came to my mind. What if we could see a simple 1'x1' grid laid out on the ground or a cinetape's/focus bug's read out within our FOV never needing to take our sight off the camera and actor or even multiple live distance measurements between the set, props, and actors utilizing the glass's camera. Are we on a path where we are all going to become technicians of auto focus systems or is the art and skill of focus pulling going to continue to be an essential part of filmmaking and if so do you think this technology is worth looking into or am I wasting my time?
