cPRO lens data display usefulness during shooting By Teemu Koivisto on 12/6/19, 1:05 PM • 291 views How useful would you say the lens data display is while shooting given the size and position on the cPRO? Reason I'm asking is on the WCU-4 I've found it to be quite nice in certain situations. On a tricky Steadicam or hand held shot without rehearsal or marks I often use the display with the range finder data and "chase" the little green triangle. I find this method to be much quicker and accurate than pulling off a monitor. I of course refine my approach for subsequent takes but this method has saved me quite many times. On the WCU-4 the display is larger and closer to the knob than on the cPRO. Have you used the same method on the cPRO?
Totally agree. I used the new CPro only one time ( for the Cinefade possibility ) and find that the display wasn’t clear enough. The touchscreen is to small in my opinion and it take me several try for changes fonctions in the menu. And when display Lens data as cinetape , it may be the same font size than wcu4 , the position of the screen is too far from the knob. And the little green arrow miss me a lot , used it a lot of time to « follow » it during shot Convert as an answerBastien Rébéna
on 12/6/19, 6:01 PM I use the range finder arrow lined up with the electronic distance marker quite often to hold focus with my Cpro and find it quite responsive . Even though this read out is below the Ring marker it doesn’t matter because I am watching the electronic readout marker and rangefinder arrow together. In fact when doing this with the wcu-4 I find the lag between the mechanical knob and the electronic readout to be distracting . While the cpro read out is smaller and lower I find it to be crisper and tight with the mechanical wheel. Regards Bill Convert as an answerBill Robinson on 12/7/19, 3:11 AM
ERIC UGLAND On 12/8/19, 2:55 AM It takes getting used to, but the rangefinder display works quite well. It displays 2 lines, one for knob and one for rangefinder, you can chase the rangefinder line similar as you would with wcu4. While there is another display that is essentially the same view as wcu4, I find the other view mode a better use of space on this smaller display. The latency issue with the wcu4's screen is basically nonexistent on the cpro display.
Rozemarijn On 12/12/19, 9:35 AM Hey Teemu, i have used the wcu4 with a UDM and i now use the Cpro with a CineRT its like Eric says, a little getting used to. I did like the green triangle on the wcu4 and how its next to the knob. But now, working with the Cpro i Always have my display on 'range' and is just as easy and fast as the wcu4. Maybe even better because the numbers are larger. I also assigned the Back User Button on the Cpro to 'auto focus' , so when i panic i can hit the button. works like a charm.
Fabio On 12/12/19, 1:27 PM Hey all, I agree with the rest of people, it's undeniable that the cPro display is smaller than the wcu4 one, still I find that once you get used to it it's just as efficient. The possibility to scroll between the rangefinder page and the lens data, according to the needs of the shoot works very nice for me, but as people already said, it's a matter of taste and getting used to it
