Fabio On 2/18/19, 9:29 PM Another thing I really like about the system is the ergonomics and the monitor bracket which allows a really balanced “hand held” setup (see the pic below). As a first assistant cameraman I prefer to be always as close to the camera as possible, so when the camera is on the move, I can just put the monitor on the bracket with a quick release lock and move with it. some features I still miss are: - the possibility to do digital marks with a dedicated button - to see the cinetape/rangefinder/UDM readout as a number on the display - to see on the main page of the lens display the premarked ring selected, I know it is shown in another page but I would like to see it in the same place of the lens info
Digital marks are coming soon.
range finder read out is already working, but you need an LCUBE-1 to connect the system to an UDM or Cinetape
To have an Icon, of which pre-marked ring you have loaded on the main page is a good idea. We will add this to the list!
Fabio On 2/20/19, 7:39 AM Hey Clemens, thanks for your answers! I know that the system already interacts with the Arri UDM through the Lcube, actually I’m using it and works great. What I was saying is it would be nice to see the number of the read out (not just the green line) in the lens main screen (see the picture attached, where I also suggest where it could appear). I say this because sometimes I need to know what’s the readout is and in the circle of the lens screen is not too intuitive. Cheers!
Fabio On 2/14/19, 7:41 AM I’m on a Netflix tv show and I’m very happy with the system. The camera is very light without a brain box, the possibility to power the motor both by Sony dedicated cable and 3 pin RS (we are with a Sony Venice) allows me versatility which is crucial in certain situations. Also, I’m used to metric scales but lenses have imperial so I’m using the conversion pretty much all the time and the system does that quickly and reliably. Interaction with Arri UDM works fine and so far I have had no issues. Here’s a pick of my studio setup. I’ll post a wishlist later on 😁
Clemens Hönig On 2/19/19, 6:47 PM A quick tip: If you are not using the zoom, you can turn it off, so the LED won't flash red...Same of course for the slider, but as I see, you have figured that out already ;)
Eoin mcguigan On 2/18/19, 2:59 PM Hey all - focus puller from America here. Primarily using mine in commercial work and a wide variety of lenses, so being able to store as many as possible has been a great asset and saves lots of time in prep. A few minor quirks but the cMotion team is remarkable fast with their service and support so it’s been great so far! Aidan Gray On 2/21/19, 4:16 AM This has been my experience too - I had a hand unit go into an infinite boot cycle on me, and I had a loaner handset the next day from the people at Camadeus, who took care of all the shipping etc... I've been through several LCS systems and I've never seen service like that! Clemens Hönig On 2/18/19, 3:02 PM That`s great to hear Eion. We are constantly collecting feedback for the upcoming softwarer releases. Remember: The current software is the launch release software. There are a lot of features waiting to be add to the system.
Philipp Uhl On 2/21/19, 12:25 AM Hi! I have my cPro since beginning of November now and I'm shooting mostly commercials with it. All in all I'm really happy with it! The obvious advantages are ergonomics and the RF-built-in motor, which are both great improvements to previous systems. I really like to use lds, and its great to have that on every shoot now. A great feature that only the cPro has (as far as I know) is to show DoF calculations even with only a focus motor connected, by typing in a value for the set iris. It would be even better though, if we wouldn't have to go into the menu to do that, but set a iris value using the slider (+ premarked strip) instead. This would be much faster and more intuitive! Another thing that would help with the lds implementation would be to have folders for the lens files, so finding a certain set of lenses would get faster and the list of files can get more structured. I'm really looking forward to the camera control licenses that hopefully will be released soon, once it's possible to control Arri and Red camera settings with the cPro hand unit, it will, in my opinion, clearly be the best focus tool out there. I hope we will be able to use the cPro user buttons for camera control as well!
Aidan Gray On 2/21/19, 4:12 AM +1 for pretty much everything you've said - I don't see the DoF calcs as a priority, but the LDS system and ARRI/RED Camera control is definitely a big deal... Even just the ability to export lens data files would be huge. Its such a pain on the Preston systems when you need to swap hand units for any reason, and I really enjoy the way ARRI has it all set up. Clemens Hönig On 2/21/19, 6:35 AM Import / Export Lens data will soon be available. You will also be able to import ARRI Lens data, and the cPRO converts it into the LBUS LDS. Aidan Gray On 2/22/19, 4:11 AM That... that is beautiful :') Even more reason for me to re-assemble my LDA archive! I should be able to get it all together and post sometime early next week... David Oliver Gaiser On 2/20/19, 8:45 PM Hey all! First the cPro is a really nice system. For me it would be nice if you could put into the release a shortcut for changing the pre-marked rings, for a faster way of changing them. The other thing is: If you are on the display and you are swiping between the sites and you find something you want to change, it would be awesome if you could then after the dopple tap on the display find yourself in the right sub menu instead of the main menu. Here's an example: There is the page 'CONTROLS': on it you see which axes are active and what pre-marked ring is selected. It would be awesome if you then dopple tap on it and find yourself in the right submenu. What do you think about it? Best David Clemens Hönig On 2/21/19, 6:33 AM Hey David, Thanks for your comment. FYI: The shortcut you are talking about is already implemented. You just need to press and hold the middle button under the display and you will jump right into the menu, of the info page you are.... Best, Clemens David Oliver Gaiser On 2/21/19, 8:00 AM Ok thanks I’ll try it:) Hannes Knaupp On 2/27/19, 10:51 AM Hi all, I´m working with the CPro mostly on commercials since we got it in November and I´m really happy with the system. Things on my wishlist, that were already mentioned and I second: > Vibrating marks (I really love the hard stops, but sometimes a vibrating mark is better, when you have a subject not hitting their marks - despite the panic button) > Some structure for sorting the lens files - I think I would prefer folders. So I can sort them by manufacturer/project or even rental house.. But maybe this will be easier, when you can import/export the files with the next update. Then I would keep them on the USB stick in a folder structure and only load the one´s I need to the handunit, so I don´t need any structure there. > Used Premarked ring in the main screen > UDM/Cinetape readout value on the main screen is a great idea - the green marker is a little too small and I would like to see a real value.. > Lens names and manufacturer should be really carried over from the last lens mapped. You normally have a set of lenses from one manufacturer and it is a pain to have to write "Cooke_S4" (or even worse "Angenieux") 10 times during prep. I normally change only the last numbers for the focal length (e.g. "Cooke_S4_25" is my naming convention), so I rather delete the two digits then typing everything again.. Maybe pressing the delete User Button for 3 seconds could be a "Delete all characters" function. > Cam control licenses is a feature I´m really looking forward to. Especially when shooting on a crane or russian arm, I´m still getting the WCU-4 because of the playback and settings change feature - which is quite often necessary, when shooting like that (sun is going down and changing the ND filters via remote is so good). Three new requests: > With the RF Motor it takes to long for my taste, when I have to long press the button for calibration. On a studio shot, I have the handunit often on a stand some meters away and therefore like to calibrate the motor on the motor directly after changing the lens, so I don´t have to go the the handunit first. Maybe it is possible to shorten the time you have to press the button (is it 5s at the moment? Maybe 3s would be great). > Premarked ring in 2m or even 3m for longer lenses would be a great addition > When the "looked" icon is active, you don´t see the wireless reception anymore. I nearly always have the touchscreen looked and therefore always have the "looked" icon active. Maybe there´s a way to see the wireless reception too.. Clemens Hönig On 2/27/19, 12:46 PM Hi Hannes, Thanks for your post. See my comments as follows:
Vibrating marks are on our list and will be add soon
We will definitely optimize the lens archive and make it more structured.
To show, which pre-marked ring is used, in the main screen, is a good idea. We will take a look into it
Same for range finder read out
We are working on the lens handling, editing and creating, to optimize all workflows constantly
Cam control is on the list for sure
CAL button on motor from 5 to 3 sec. : we will take a look into that
We are looking for options, to give everyone more freedom for the pre-marked rings... stay tuned.
About the lock icon and signal icon: We will discuss, how to optimize that.
Thanks! Clemens Philipp Uhl On 2/28/19, 12:41 AM In the last days I found another little thing that could help: At the moment, in the menu for the premarked rings, all the rings are in one list, starting with imperial, and then metric. Since we can we can set the system unit to metric or imperial in the main menu, it would be great if the hand unit would take that information and only show the premarked rings that are metric for the metric users, and imperial for the imperial users... What do you think? Hannes Knaupp On 2/28/19, 11:02 AM I would second that - don´t think anyone uses both ;) Rozemarijn On 4/20/19, 12:17 PM would love that! also with making feet-lensfiles and transfering them into metric, i would love everything to metric and i dont want to see anywhing imperial :) Micha Kaiser On 2/18/19, 7:17 PM Hello all, we ( http://highspeed-munich.de ) have the cPro hand unit and the cPro motor. Now we have some commercials rock with this System and we are were happy. It is very light with good feeling in the hand. Last week we have a test with a MoCo remote system and the cPro motor and in future it can work together. It is good to have the cPro line! Clemens Hönig On 2/18/19, 7:34 PM Did it work already? Guess the speed of the cPRO motor matches good with robotic high speed shots. Micha Kaiser On 2/18/19, 8:00 PM in some days I will post here with a picture when we are ready! ERIC UGLAND On 9/9/19, 8:36 PM Just got my Cpro and I am quite pleased with it. Ergonomics are great, and the feature set is better than all the other alternatives. All of the issues I have are software related. There are a number of software improvements that I would like to see. -Locking an axis hides the signal strength icon, this should be moved so we can see both at once. -I would like to disable the flashing red backlight for a locked axis without having to turn off the backlight entirely. I regularly lock my iris to prevent any accidental movement and having my hand unit constantly flashing is just annoying and distracting. Would prefer if it just went to solid red instead of blinking. -The thumb wheel works great while navigating the main menu, but is way to sensitive in the home pages. I keep barely bumping it and it moves to a different page. Should require a larger turn to flip between pages. -As of now, the mapping of MB1 and MB3 seems bugged for the calibrate all function. When I press it says "hold to start calibration" but nothing happens. The function works fine on my other user buttons. -Touch buttons are easily triggered while swiping through pages, would work better with a hold for 1 second. -There is no visual indicator when using autofocus functions. Needs something similar to the WCU4, which displays a 2nd arrow for autofocus position, and another for knob position. Making it easy to line the two up when taking control again after releasing autofocus. I like the concept of autofocus pinpoint, but without a visual indicator of the position its basically impossible to use. As of now, there is no way to know when you have lined up with the pinpoint position and are reengaged with the knob. Or maybe could vibrate once you take over. Pinpoint could also use some sort of esc key. -The rangefinder view needs a better indicator for differentiating between the measured distance and the knob mark. As of now one is a green line and the other white, but at a glance I find this hard to tell the two apart. They just look so similar. My idea is to make the white line an arrow that points to the rangefinder distance. This will make it quicker to determine which way to turn the knob. I've created a mockup of the concept. I think this would be far more intuitive. Clemens Hönig On 9/10/19, 10:08 AM Hi Eric, Thanks for the feedback! We will pass this to our development. BTW: Have you already signed up to the cteam? Cheers, Clemens ERIC UGLAND On 9/10/19, 8:03 PM Not yet! I will soon! Fernando Motta On 10/1/19, 9:08 PM
On which projects have you used it?

Hi my name is Fernando Motta, I'm 2and AC here in São Paulo/BR. Most of the times here we use Bartech and WCU-4. Now we have a Rentalhouse that bought a new cPRO. The handunit is awesome, but the problem that we have here is that the rentalhouse didin't bought the license to control the cameras so what I think is that we are using 50% of the solutions of the cPRO. What I really like on the cPRO is that you don't need a user manual to start using. The menus are so intuitive. What's nice is the collors of the hand unit, you can always now what's happening, like: calibrating, lock, ready. The distante of the motor and the handunit it's nice too like we tested here in Amazonas the distance of two boats, the camera in one and the focus puller in other and the signal was very strong. Clemens Hönig On 10/2/19, 10:09 AM Thanks for your feedback Fernando! The software license for camera control is not yet available to purchase. however it will be released in the next days. So I am pretty sure, the rental house will buy it, once it is released. cheers, Clemens
Aidan Gray On 2/21/19, 4:39 AM I've been rocking it mostly on commercials, but I've day-played on a few shows with it and I haven't felt uncomfortable at all... The ease of use and intuitive nature of the handset is my favourite part - rarely do I need to fumble around in the menus to find what I'm looking for... I also enjoy the fact that I've yet to run into any RF issues (even in Washington, DC) or reliability issues in general. Its a minor thing, but I do also very much enjoy the case it shipped with - I ended up throwing it into a Pelican 1635 with some TrekPak foam, along with my two 7" monitors, my Teradek system, some mounting hardware, and my backup studio follow focus and its a great single case to travel with. The lens mapping is the best I've seen out of any LCS system I've used, the way you can dial in the "Resolution" to perfectly map even the strangest lenses is perfection. The only improvements I would like to see the lens data system are:
Lenses should be sorted by name including brand, then focal length, not chronologically... I.e. Zeiss Master Prime 18mm, Master Prime 32mm, Ultra Prime 24mm, Ultra Prime 50mm, etc, etc. I know it gets tricky with multiple serialized sets, but I think thats a specific case and simply changing the lens name would allow you to re-organise. Alternatively, someone mentioned folders which would also be okay but maybe a little too cumbersome
Lens name should be carried over from the last lens programmed, so you don't have to retype it...
A method of exporting and sharing so we can build a database on this site!
Ability to use the back button to select numbers and letters in the first couple of screens, similar to the WCU-4
Not lens related, but I would love to see a "Knob Lock" and "Slider Lock" added to the list of user buttons - I currently use the "Limits" functions, but you kind of need to trick it into locking either axis...
Also not lens related, but haptic focus marks would be killer
I haven't gotten a chance to use it with an UDM or Cinetape systems yet, but I might tomorrow so I'm excited to see how that works... I'm not a huge fan of those systems in general so its not a big deal to me, but I've heard good things. I'm eagerly awaiting the Camera Control license release as at that point, it really is a WCU-4 killer in my mind. Preston users will always be Preston users, but I think the cPro will easily be the best handset on the market with the ability to control camera settings. I'm also very curious to see how that is all implemented - I'm sure it will be great... I really can't wait to see where this system goes and how Cmotion continues to improve and update it to keep it at the forefront of LCS devices! Vince On 2/21/19, 10:32 PM Hi Aidan, it's possible to assign a knob lock and/or slider lock in the "buttons" menu. The knob will flash orange when this is engaged, the same for the slider. All the best Aidan Gray On 2/22/19, 4:20 AM I'll have to look for this - I swear I couldn't find it when I was setting my unit up but I admittedly haven't looked since (and my unit is running an upgraded firmware now)... Thank you for the tip! Aidan Gray On 2/25/19, 12:57 PM You were totally right - I wonder how I missed that... Cmotion is way ahead of me (: Fabio On 2/21/19, 11:18 AM I’m using the cPro with the Arri UDM and Lcube and the interaction works just as good as with the wcu4, I really love the moment when the numbers turns green! Plus, if you need a really light set up you just need to mount the UDM display to set the focal plane, than you can unplug it since you have the readout on the hand unit Aidan Gray On 2/21/19, 5:12 AM And not exactly a feature request, but I would love to see a single channel cPro/red radio compatible hand unit come into existence (: I think that would be worth picking up for sure! LEE LEO On 7/29/19, 7:28 AM At the end of last year i had the opportunity to first learn cPRO,until this month arri open house day in china exhibition,i got more about cPRO and cinefade ND,actually wcu-4 already take up most part of china market,i think as a new device a little bit to hit in. like users said some pro and cons, the connect camera menu;lock button;small screen,no chance to test signal,as a 1ac,compare wcu4,direct-simple-react fast-east to study(arri already have chinese instruction file).but everything need to be practical in real shoot, just in personal opinion, hand unit -i like wcu4 design, big screen in the middle, like tendency of iphone, not need too much function, too complicated not suit in market.still happy to see the cPRO improve in future Clemens Hönig On 9/10/19, 10:13 AM Hey Lee, Thanks for your feedback. FYI: We have already added the Chinese user interface :) Cheers, Clemens
LEE LEO On 7/29/19, 7:30 AM A little bit hard to hit in Matt On 10/31/19, 11:41 PM I recently got a demo unit for 2 weeks - and shortly afterward, my local camera house ordered 2 full sets and I've been using it on every job since. I got to try it on a short feature, commercials, & documentary with a variety of different lenses. Things I love: + The Design - It feels much more comfortable in my hand. I think the grip keeps my hand straighter and so I find my wrist to be much less strained than with a WCU-4. + Intuitive interface. I found the UI to be really easy to sort thru. Everything made sense from starting up the Hand Unit. A software update occurred between the demo and the camera house getting theirs, and the new Shortcuts for Lens Change/Load and PreMarked Discs was something I was actually planning to mention wanting. Changing the mapping quickly was crucial on that documentary job. + Great connection between motor and hand unit. I had a travel job after we sent the demo unit back and got the WCU-4. I figured it'd be a good comparison since I'd just used the CPro for 2 weeks straight. The job was a bit nuts and I was the only AC for 2 cameras, one of which I was pulling on. Several times I couldn't be next to my operator because of how small a footprint we needed and WCU-4 struggled with being even 20 ft apart, lagging on REC/STOP enough to really frustrate me. I tested the CPro w/ RF Motor when it came in and easily doubled the largest gap between myself and an operator and the REC/STOP on the CPro was instant every time. + The hard stops/panic button helped me pull off a fairly tough dolly zoom. The Dolly Grip was pretty spot on and we got several great takes so I could quickly throw the focal distance from my 2 to my 3 mark 30'ft or so and land it (lens was Wide Open as well). I set a hard stop for where my talent would be and kept a finger on that panic button. I think I would have struggled with other hand units but it was the tool I needed. I would have needed a lot more rehearsal with another one haha It's a solid unit. I'm already building up my Lens Database. If I figure out how to share, I'll post them as I sort through what lenses I can get my hands on soon. At some point, I'll buy a unit, but for now, I'm happy the got it at the local camera house. A few things that would be nice to have: + When Lens Mapping, having the unit remember what preset options I've picked (like picking Zeiss, for instance) would be great, same with the name. Aiden earlier said it best "Lens name should be carried over from last lens programmed..." + Haptic Markers - I believe I saw this was coming in a future update and that is going to be great. I support this. + Locking an axis, I lose my signal strength icon. If that could stay and the lock icon could be moved, that'd be great. + Also from an above comment, being able to select an option of Off/Solid/Blinking for when an axis is locked would be sweet. The blinking can get distracting sometimes and I'd hate to ever distract crew or talent. Really love the unit. My favorite I've used. Looking forward to seeing cMotion further develop it. I'll attach a pic of how I used it when needing to be mobile - unit attached to my monitor, mounted to a Benro Head on a monopod. Pay no mind to my dumb selfie in the reflection...
