Some days ago I could test the new Cmotion software license to control Arri & Red cameras (wasn´t ready the Sony license yet). This is an amazing new feature to our FIZ system and makes it the only FIZ in the market that can control all these brands.
I did the test with an Arri Alexa Mini and a Red Monstro.
I began with the Mini and my first reaction was WOOW! Sorry to yell out loud but we have been waiting it for a while and I was a bit anxious already. My first impression was that It worked smooth and very well implemented. If you push a button on the cPro it changes immediately on camera (¨no latency¨ here neither ;). It is even faster to playback from the cPro than directly from camera!
The licenses are actually very simple to use, once is installed you just need to have the right cable and plug in to the cPro motor and the camera, It appears camera in the main cPro menu. Once you enter there you can see the parameters to control the camera so its pretty much plug and play. Beside the menu, there is a touchscreen page where you can shortcut to do playback.
I great thing Cmotion just add is the option to have 6 extra touch buttons to control the camera user buttons so there is no need to use for this the physical buttons on the hand unit, this is a great added function because it is not practical to have physical buttons assigned to camera user buttons and maybe you could push them accidentally.
The buttons on the hand unit work as a mirror of the assigned functions to the user buttons on the camera itself, so the functions assigned on camera will be the ones we can control from the hand unit.
Red camera control works as great as Arri does, the only difference is that when you change a parameter it´s a bit slower than Arri, but this is because the Red processing time and it takes the same time as it would take to change it on camera.
So the new licenses work great, very simple to use and clever. YEAHHH!
If you are going to IBC these days pass by the Cmotion booth to try out them and say hi!
